Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Conservatory of Music?
A place where students of exceptional talent are mentored in music by caring faculty who are exceptional teacher/performers on various instruments.
How does Saint Andrew’s Conservatory differ from ordinary music schools?
Music training in a church encourages a biblical approach to learning, which in turn results in students having a unique perspective about music as a gift from God they are encouraged to develop.
Where is it located?
Located in a peaceful campus setting just minutes off I-4 in Sanford, the Conservatory of Music serves the community around it, and as well brings students in from neighboring cities.
Who does the teaching?
Saint Andrew’s is a community of faith where the arts are taken seriously. The faculty of the Conservatory are well-educated, spiritually well-grounded, and experienced in their field both as performers and teachers. Students come here from throughout Central Florida for an outstanding music training experience.
What kind of performing is required?
Students are encouraged to perform two times a year in recitals and informal musicales. The atmosphere is healthy, somewhat challenging, and very forgiving for the growing performer. No student with serious performing issues will be asked to be in a recital. Most students, after studying here a few months, get involved and want to perform as a natural outgrowth of study.
When do lessons and classes meet?
Each faculty sets a personal schedule for availability. Lessons are held in well-equipped classrooms over 16 weeks in the Fall semester, 16 weeks in Spring semester, and 10 weeks in Summer Term. Weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. the office is open, and many faculty stay to teach past 5:00. Every effort will be made to find a good teacher at the best time.
What do you offer besides lessons?
There are musicianship and music theory classes offered each year, as well as small ensembles, and a summer music camp. Adults are welcome to explore our Church Music Certificate program, training vocationally focused musicians toward service in choral conducting, organ, conducting/arranging, and piano.
How do I apply?
You may call the Conservatory M-F 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 407-328-0528. Our email is conservatory@saintandrewsonline.org.
How much is tuition?
A complete explanation of the Conservatory’s tuition and payment plans is available upon request. The best music training is well worth the cost, and our staff makes each student’s account a priority. For those in need, we offer a limited financial aid package.
Do you have scholarships?
Beginning in 2010, the Conservatory Board approved scholarships to be awarded through a screening committee. It awards students who have true musical talent, good potential, and a high level of musical discipline. In some cases, a student is eligible for tuition scholarships of 50%.
Who is allowed to attend?
Students in our recreational music division are enrolled without an audition, and assigned to a faculty member on the instrument requested. Students in our advanced division are vocationally centered, and will be interviewed or auditioned by the faculty member who is available for your instrument preference. Every inquiry for lessons will be considered, and faculty whose schedules are full may have room to accept students at a later date.
